Hands-on Presortation Exercises
These exercises were designed to walk you through the entire process of
bundling/grouping, containerizing and labelling your Publications
MailTM items. The Hands-On Presortation Exercises
helps you put into practice the “theory” we covered in the NDG Presort
Basics section.
Choose one of the two exercises provided below. Your selection should
be based on the size of your items and/or the type of containers you
will be using:
- Short and Long items can be containerized in bags or in lettertainers.
- Oversize items can be containerized in bags or in flats tubs
Refer to the glossary section of this site if you’re unsure whether your
items qualify as Short and Long or Oversize.
Objective:
This teaching method has proven to be an effective learning tool. In order
to maximize your learning potential and help you follow the instructor lead
exercise, it’s important that you print a copy of the mailing list and the
accompanying pages of the National Presortation Schematic (NPS). Double click
on “Required Document – mailing list and NPS” of the exercise you’d like to
work on.
Material Required:
- A pen or pencil
- Four (4) pages of the National Presortation Schematic (NPS) and one
(1) page containing a mailing list.
Duration of an exercise:
Approximately 30 minutes. Can be done in increments if you bookmark the pages.
Now choose either exercise #1 or #2 and let the instructor teach you the
methodology involved in preparing and presorting a mailing. You can then
use this technique to prepare and presort your own mailings.
The NPS tables found in these exercises have been designed solely for training
purposes. The NPS is updated on a monthly basis and Customers are required to
presort their mail using the most current version of the document.
